Volaris unveils special Barbie livery on A320 aircraft

Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Volaris and Hollywood studio Warner Bros. Pictures have unveiled a new Barbie-themed aircraft livery.

The unveiling of this specially painted aircraft, an Airbus A320neo, registered as N528VL, precedes the global premiere of the highly anticipated live-action Barbie movie featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the roles of Barbie and Ken.

The airline plans to deploy its Barbie airliner on routes to Mexico’s seaside resorts and the southern United States. Volaris will follow up the roll out of the plane with a number of social media campaigns revolving around Barbie and Ken.

While the expected release of this movie, which has been directed by Greta Gerwig, has helped revive interest in the much-loved children’s toy, this is not the first time that Barbie’s pink universe has met with the world of aviation.

Back in 2015, Australian airline Qantas marked its 95th anniversary by launching a collection of 44 Barbie and Ken dolls dressed as crew members and wearing uniforms from different periods in the airlines’ history.

Likewise, Virgin Atlantic offers a Mattel Barbie Virgin Atlantic Cabin Crew Doll via its online shop, where it is possible to purchase Virgin Atlantic-themed memorabilia.

In April 2023, United Airliners also posted a reference to Barbie on its social media channels, linking it to its Boeing 787s, although so far, no further context has been provided by the airline.
