British Airways is set to accept its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, the biggest aircraft of the Dreamliner family, on May 21, 2020. The delivery comes four months late, as the London Heathrow (LHR)-based airline initially planned to welcome the 787-10 in January 2020.
In November 2019, British Airways announced that it was dreaming of new heights with the 787-10, as the aircraft was to be deployed between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in February 2020.
However, the plan was put on halt and the aircraft never came in January. Instead, the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (registered G-ZBLA) was drawing circles above South Carolina and Charleston, one of the two facilities where Boeing assembles the Dreamliner family, in March and in May 2020, flightradar24.com data showcases.
Currently, British Airways operates 30 Boeing 787s: 12 of the smallest version, the 787-8, and 18 787-9s. The airline has 12 more 787-10s on order, indicates Boeing’s customer data.
Back in November 2019, the chairman and CEO Alex Cruz of British Airways noted that the upcoming delivery would be a “significant milestone in our £6.5bn customer investment plan,” as it offers “greater comfort for our customers,” including the latest generation of onboard seating, compared to the aircraft that it is replacing, added Cruz.
The aircraft is outfitted in a four-class configuration, featuring First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy products: a rare lineup in today’s world, as even prior to the coronacrisis, First Class was becoming increasingly redundant on long-haul aircraft.
