At first glance, airlines were at the top of the ladder in terms of the attention they have received throughout the crisis. Billions in aid money for airlines sent shockwaves through the industry and the general public. Some were supportive, while others were unhappy, to say the least.
The small guys, including regional airports that do not see multi-million traffic numbers, were seemingly ignored. While they aren’t the major hubs of the world, they play an important role for their local communities. Not only do they provide essential connections to the outside world, but they also bring in tourists, which help the local economies.
Nevertheless, regional airports were hit hard. Some from daily activities to flights only a couple of times a week, as borders closed down and passengers swayed away from stepping onboard an aircraft due to the risks associated with it.
