MAB Engineering has doubled its maintenance capacity at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB) in Subang following the commissioning of a new hangar facility.
The company, part of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), announced on May 7, 2026, that Hangar 4 is now operational under a 15-year lease agreement with Impeccable Vintage Properties, a subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
The move marks a shift from the company’s previous base at Hangar 1, which could only accommodate two maintenance lines. Hangar 4 now allows MAB Engineering to run four lines simultaneously: one widebody line for A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, one narrowbody line for Boeing 737-800 and 737-8 jets, and two narrowbody propeller lines for ATR72 turboprops.
Serving both internal and external demand
The expanded facility is designed to handle both in-house and third-party work. Around half the capacity is allocated to maintaining the fleets of Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, while the other half is set aside for external MRO customers.
The balance reflects MAB Engineering’s push to grow its commercial business while continuing to support the group’s own airlines.
Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, said the expansion strengthens the company’s ability to compete in a regional MRO market where demand for maintenance services continues to rise.
“This expansion not only doubles our maintenance capacity at Subang, but also enhances our ability to serve both MAG airlines and international customers more effectively,” Nasaruddin said.
Part of MAG’s broader growth plan
The hangar expansion falls under Malaysia Aviation Group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0, which was launched in December 2025. The plan outlines the group’s strategy for building a more resilient and efficient operation across its aviation businesses.
MAB Engineering said the new facility also improves day-to-day workflow, allowing for better planning and resource use across different aircraft types. The company added that the upgraded environment is also intended to support its workforce by providing a more structured space to carry out maintenance work.
