A HondaJet was substantially damaged after overrunning a runway while landing at Yao Airport near Osaka, Japan.
The incident occurred at around 17:30 local time on June 26, 2026, according to Japanese media reports.
The aircraft, identified by the Aviation Safety Network as Honda HA-420 HondaJet JA333P, overran Runway 27 during landing.
Three people were on board. No injuries were reported.
The aircraft came to rest beyond the 4,888-foot-long runway after striking a fence. There was no reported fire or fuel leak.
Yao Airport is a general aviation airport located in Osaka Prefecture. It is used by small aircraft, helicopters and business aviation operators.
The incident adds to a series of runway excursions involving the HondaJet, a very light jet known for its over-the-wing engine mount design.
The HondaJet does not have thrust reversers, leaving wheel braking and aerodynamic devices as the primary means of deceleration after touchdown.
Earlier versions of the HondaJet lacked ground spoilers, which help reduce lift after touchdown and put more weight on the wheels for braking.
Honda Aircraft addressed that issue on the HondaJet Elite II, which added fully automatic ground spoilers to improve takeoff and landing field performance. The Elite II also added an augmented nosewheel steering system designed to improve directional control.
The HondaJet involved in the overrrun was serial number 42000031. The aircraft was registered in Japan in May 2021 and has been linked in aviation databases to Tokushukai Medical Group, which uses the jet to transport doctors and other medical personnel.
The US Federal Aviation Administration has previously raised concern about HondaJet runway excursions. In a May 2026 safety notice, the FAA said the Honda HA-420 had experienced runway excursions at a higher rate than comparable aircraft and cited 39 lateral excursions and overruns since certification.
The FAA said its review found that failure to follow aircraft flight manual techniques was a factor in a significant number of reported events.
The Yao Airport incident also comes after several high-profile HondaJet runway excursions in recent years.
In April 2025, a HondaJet overran the runway at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in North Bend, Oregon, and came to rest in Coos Bay. All five people on board survived.
In November 2024, a HondaJet was involved in a fatal runway overrun during takeoff from Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. Four people on board the aircraft and one person in a vehicle on the ground were killed.
