Toronto Pearson (YYZ)
Toronto Pearson (YYZ) at a glance
Toronto Pearson (YYZ) is Canada's front door: 47.3 million passengers in 2025, roughly 30% of the country's entire air traffic and 45% of its air cargo, moving through two terminals 22 kilometers northwest of downtown Toronto. It is Air Canada's fortress hub and the anchor of Star Alliance flying in Canada, with a route map that reaches about 200 destinations, and more international passengers than any airport in the Americas except New York JFK.
Pearson opened in 1939 as Malton Airport and now sits on 4,600 acres between Toronto and Mississauga with five runways, more pavement than almost any of the great European or Asian hubs. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority is preparing the airport for 65 million passengers by the early 2030s, a rebuild running through both terminals while the airport already operates near winter-weather limits that make it one of North America's most delay-sensitive hubs.

Terminals & infrastructure
Terminal 1, one of the largest buildings in Canada, is Air Canada's home and the Star Alliance house; Terminal 3 hosts WestJet, the US carriers and most other international airlines. Five runways give Pearson more pavement than almost any comparable hub, and the UP Express rail link connects Terminal 1 to downtown Toronto in 25 minutes, with the GTAA's expansion program building toward 65 million passengers by the early 2030s.Full specifications
