American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) is cutting the last remaining route to Bolivia served by U.S. carriers from November 27, 2019.

“American has proudly served Bolivia for 29 years. As part of the constant evaluation of our network, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our service to Santa Cruz” the airline’s spokesperson confirmed to AeroTime. “We currently operate this service three times per week from our Miami hub, increasing to daily during high season”.  

The reason behind the decision is unprofitability. “American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) continually evaluates its network, looking at supply and demand for each route we serve,” the spokesperson revealed. “We want to ensure our fleet and crews are serving routes that are profitable, better positioning us for long term success against global competition”. 

American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) dropped another route to Bolivia, La Paz, on July 4, 2018. Once Santa Cruz flights are ceased, there will be left no routes to the country served by U.S. airlines, and the only Santa Cruz to U.S. service provider is going to be Boliviana de Aviacion. 

While closing some routes, American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) opened 50 new destinations within the last three months, the airline has revealed among its second quarter financial results.
