American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) announced the date when it plans to start pilot training for the grounded Boeing 737 MAX. Having 24 Boeing 737 MAXs on its fleet, it seems the airline is eagerly looking forward to returning the aircraft to the skies.
An American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) spokesman announced that the carrier was planning to begin the Pilot training in November 2020. However, the plans are not definitive because the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not given a firm timeline yet for when the MAX will be cleared to operate.
On September 22, 2020, a spokesman said that the airline would adjust the training scheduling process or even cancel its plans if the aircraft would not be recertified. Currently, the carrier is awaiting the FAA’s guidance.
The pilot training will consist of a distanced learning module as well as a briefing with a simulator session. The carrier considers completing the training for all of its 737 pilots on the MAX in January 2021.
The 737 MAX has been grounded since March 2019, after two fatal crashes killed 356 people. In regards to seeking recertification, the FAA, Transport Canada, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency have already completed a series of test flights on the aircraft.
