Although the government of China currently applies strict restrictions for international flight services, China Southern Airlines (ZNH) plans to fly to 24 foreign destinations starting from August 2021.

Starting in August 2021, China Southern Airlines (ZNH) plans to offer twice-weekly flights from Guangzhou (CAN), China, to North America, including service to Los Angeles (LAX), the US, and once-weekly operations to Vancouver (YVR), Canada. The airline is also focused on serving European destinations by adding once-weekly flights to Paris (CDG), France, and Amsterdam (AMS), the Netherlands.

While being one of China’s “Big Three” airlines, Southern is also eager to increase operations in the African region. The air carrier aims to offer a twice-weekly service from its home base at Guangzhou (CAN) to Nairobi (NBO), Kenya, as well as one weekly flight to the same destination from its local hubs at Shenzhen (SZX) and Changsha (CSX).

Meanwhile, as for the Australian network, China Southern Airlines (ZNH) is eager to deploy its Airbus A380 wide-body jet to operate a flight per week between Guangzhou (CAN), Sydney (SYD), and Melbourne (MEL) as well as two operations between Guangzhou (CAN) and Auckland (AKL).

New destinations across Asia

China Southern Airlines (ZNH) proposed flight schedule for August 2021 indicates the airline’s focus on Asia.

Southern plans to add a weekly service from Wuhan (WUH) to Islamabad (ISB), Pakistan, as well as service between Shenzhen (SZX) and Jakarta (CGK), Indonesia. In addition, two flights per week are planned to depart from Shenyang (SHE) and Guangzhou (CAN) to Tokyo Narita (NRT), Japan, and Seoul (ICN), South Korea. The airline’s updated plan also includes twice-weekly operations between Guangzhou (CAN) and Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Malaysia, as well as weekly services to Vientiane (VYE), Laos, Phnom Penh (PNH), Cambodia, Yangon (RGN), Myanmar, Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Vietnam, Bangkok (BKK), Thailand, Singapore (SIN), Dhaka (DAC), Bangladesh, and Manila (MNL), the Philippines.

While China Southern Airlines (ZNH) aims to increase the frequency of its international operations in the last month of summer 2021, the currently valid so-called “Five One” policy allows local airlines to fly only a single flight per week on one route to any country, while foreign air carriers are allowed to operate just one flight per week to China.
