The Canadian business jet manufacturer Bombardier said it has cancelled Russian executive jet orders due to sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, Bombardier’s CEO Eric Martel was quoted as saying to reporters from Reuters at an event in Montreal on March 23, 2022.
However, Martel said that the manufacturer is optimistic about replacing any cancelled Russian jet orders with purchases from other customers. He added that the demand for executive jets remained strong, and the situation was under control.
A Montreal Gazette report indicated that roughly 250 Bombardier’s business jets are owned by Russian customers. Bombardier has a worldwide fleet of approximately 5,000 jets in service, according to the manufacturer.
AeroTime has asked Bombardier for a comment.
The news comes almost a month after Bombardier joined Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer in suspending all activities with Russian clients amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Bombardier has suspended all activities with Russian clients, including all forms of technical assistance. We will continue to adhere to international laws, regulations, and sanctions, as they evolve,” the company announced in a statement dated March 4, 2022.
