Igor Moiseenko, the head of State Air Traffic Management Corporation (SATMC), has resigned from his position following a corruption scandal, Russian media has reported. 

SATMC is the arm of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) responsible for navigation services. 

On April 19, 2022, RBK reported two sources close to the matter as saying the country’s government has taken a decision for Moiseenko to resign from his position.  

Later the same day, Russian Telegram channel Aviatorshina published what was claimed to be a fragment of a report delivered to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. According to the report, Moiseenko was found to have embezzled government funds and conducted other illegal activities, resulting in 7.8 billion Rubles (approx. $100 million) worth of damages to Rosaviatsiya. 

There have been no official announcements regarding Moiseenko’s position. 

The decision is a result of a corruption scandal that began in March 2022 after unconfirmed information about Moiseenko’s alleged wrongdoings began to surface. 

According to the reports, Moiseenko was keeping a host of “ghost workers” who received high salaries without performing any duties at Rosaviatsiya, as well as siphoning money from the authority through the deals arranged with companies owned by Moiseenko’s friends and relatives.
