Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) will reopen Terminal 4 in September 2022 and open more of Terminal 2 in October 2022 as it moves towards full recovery of passenger traffic.
The hub has been gradually re-opening parts of the airport in recent months thanks to easing travel restrictions.
Changi Airport Group said on June 10, 2022, that passenger traffic in the first week of June reached 48% of pre-pandemic levels and that airlines had asked to launch more flights for the northern hemisphere winter season 2022/23. It expects full recovery of passenger traffic to pre-pandemic levels in the winter season, which starts on October 30, 2022.
“The fast rebound in travel demand has given us great encouragement to prepare Changi Airport for the full recovery of passenger volume back to pre-Covid-19 levels,” Lee Seow Hiang, CAG’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement.
“The additional capacity offered by T4 and T2 will put Changi Airport in a good position to capture this recovery and support the business and operational needs of airlines,” he added.
CAG started reopening Terminal 2 on May 29, 2022. It now intends to start departure operations in the southern wing of the terminal in October.
Terminal 4 will be reopened for departing and arriving flights in September 2022, likely with airlines that had previously operated from the terminal. CAG said it would take some time to sign new leases with retail and food and drink partners but that it expected a small number of outlets would be open in September.
