Alaska Air Group is ordering up to 21 new Embraer E175 jets for its regional fleet, the manufacturer announced at the Farnborough Airshow.

The deal includes the firm order of eight aircraft for Horizon Air, with options for 13 more and is valued at $1.12 based on list prices.

The aircraft, in a 76-seat configuration, will be delivered over a period of four years, starting in the second quarter of 2023.

The additional order comes after Alaska announced plans in March to speed up its fleet modernization, which will see Horizon Air moving to a fleet of all E175 aircraft.

“The E175 is an extremely efficient aircraft,” said Nat Pieper, senior vice president of fleet, finance and alliances for Alaska Airlines, in a statement on July 19, 2022. “The jet is the perfect aircraft to serve Horizon’s regional network in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”

Horizon is due to take delivery of nine E175s over the next year as part of a previous order that also includes three deliveries in 2025. With the new order, Horizon will have a fleet of 50 E175s by 2026, or possibly sooner, Embraer said.

The Farnborough Airshow runs from July 18-22, 2022.
