Condor continues fleet renewal with order for 41 Airbus A320neo family aircraft

German leisure airline Condor has decided to order 41 A320neo family aircraft, overhauling its short-haul fleet after also selecting Airbus for its long-haul fleet renewal.

The order comprises 13 A320neo and 28 A321neo, and also includes further purchase options, Condor said in a statement on July 25, 2022.

The aircraft will be delivered in spring 2024, which is when the leisure airline is set to have completed the rollover of its long-haul fleet. Condor has ordered seven Airbus A330neo aircraft and is leasing nine more to replace its Boeing 767 fleet, starting from autumn 2022. The short-haul aircraft will replace Condor’s older A320/A321 and Boeing 757 aircraft.

“With the replacement of our entire long-haul fleet with the latest 2-litre aircraft by early 2024, it is the obvious next step for us to modernise our short-haul and medium-haul fleet as well,” chief executive Ralf Teckentrup said in the statement.

Condor recently unveiled an eye-catching new striped livery in various colors, which seems to have divided opinion.

“With our new A320neo and A321neo aircraft, we are consistently developing our fleet and ourselves as a company, and also taking care of our own ambition to enable responsible and at the same time comfortable travel with significantly reduced carbon emissions, lower fuel consumption and less noise,” Teckentrup added.

The order announcement comes just a few days after the Farnborough Airshow closed its doors for 2022, with Airbus having a quiet show on the order front compared to rivals.
