Aegean Airlines has named a new CEO as one of Europe’s longest-serving chief executives, Dimitris Gerogiannis, called time on a 20-year career.
On October 12, 2026, the Greek flag carrier announced that Michalis Kouveliotis will assume the role of CEO immediately after serving as the Deputy CEO since early 2025.
Aegean Airlines said Gerogiannis is “concluding a remarkable chapter in the company’s executive leadership”, after joining the carrier in 2001.
Gerogiannis will continue to serve as an adviser during the transition, offering oversight of the Technical Base and Training Center, the new development direction of the Aegean Airlines Group.
“Dimitris Gerogiannis, together with Theodoros Vassilakis, shaped the quality and customer service culture, as well as the principles of fairness and collaboration within our company,” Eftichios Vassilakis, Chairman of Aegean, said. “Dimitris has the rare ability to combine technical expertise with human approach.”
He added: “For all of us, he is a co-founder of the company, and this will not change with the handover of the CEO position. After all, he will continue to support AEGEAN as it moves forward from its founding leadership team to the next generation of executives.”
Kouveliotis served as the airline’s CFO for over 20 years and as part of the transition preparation process, he became Deputy CEO with responsibility for coordinating the company’s business divisions.
“Michalis Kouveliotis has already demonstrated his ability to support the company through both periods of growth and crisis,” Vassilakis added. “Over the past two years, as Deputy CEO, he has led the transition process, while his positive energy and drive have already left a strong mark on the organization. I am confident that he will excel in his new role.”
