Air France has launched its inaugural flight with the Embraer E190 aircraft refitted with new cabin interiors.

Flight AF1602 was operated by Air France’s subsidiary HOP! and departed Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) at 07:40 local time, arriving at Hamburg Airport (HAM) at 09:05 local time.

Air France’s new Embraer E190 has 110 seats in a 2-2 configuration. Each seat is upholstered in leather and has ergonomic seat foam. The seats, which are 46cm wide, can recline up to three inches. Additional seat features include a tray table, optimized storage space, fold-up armrests and a coat hook. The headrest is also height and side adjustable.

All passengers have a retractable stand for portable devices with a ribbed surface to position smartphones or tablets. USB A and C ports are available for recharging their devices, including laptops.

Business class seats occupy the front rows of the aircraft and also have mobile curtains for added privacy. According to Air France, from October 2025, each business class passenger on the retrofitted E190 will have an empty seat next to them.

Similar to its Airbus A220, the Embraer 190’s cabin features Air France’s signature colours, with shades of blue. Each seat headrest is also embroidered with the Air France trademark accent, which can also be found in the rear cabin walls of the aircraft.

As part of its sustainability and carbon emission reduction goals, each new seat on the retrofitted E190 is 30% lighter than the current model. Air France said this helps reduce the overall weight of the aircraft, thereby cutting fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

  1. Air France’s decision to invest in modernized Embraer 190 interiors demonstrates a clear alignment with evolving passenger expectations for comfort and convenience. By enhancing seat ergonomics, personal space, and onboard functionality, the airline is not only strengthening customer loyalty but also positioning itself competitively within the European short and medium haul market.
