The exact composition of the recent record-setting 500 aircraft order by Indian low-cost airline IndiGo has now been disclosed.
In the orders and deliveries breakdown for the month of June 2023 just been published by Airbus, the IndiGo order is revealed to consist of 125 A320neo and 375 A321neo aircraft.
The order was announced at a press conference at the Paris Air Show on June 19, 2023, but at the time no details were given about its exact make up.
The emphasis on the larger A321neo is in tune with the increasing preference of low-cost airlines throughout the world for larger narrow body aircraft, to take advantage of the economies of scale that they offer.
Wizz Air, Volaris, Viva Aerobus and Ryanair are some of the low-cost carriers that have recently placed orders for either the A321neo or the Boeing 737 MAX 10, which are the largest versions of the respective aircraft families.
