Alaska Airlines is expected to become a new member of an established commercial airline partnership and revenue-sharing agreement with American Airlines, British Airways and Finnair.
On September 29, 2026, alongside American Airlines, Alaska Airlines announced its intention to join the Atlantic Joint Business (AJB) and Pacific Joint Business (PJB), enhancing international travel opportunities for its customers.
Formed in 2010, the Atlantic Joint Business sees carriers, including American, British Airways, Iberia, Finnair, Aer Lingus and LEVEL, coordinate aspects of transatlantic operations.
The Pacific Joint Business which was established shortly after currently sees American and Japan Airlines work together on the trans-Pacific network.
Alaska Airlines said it anticipates filing for approval and antitrust immunity with the US Department of Transportation, while seeking other relevant approvals from international regulators, in the coming months.
“Alaska Accelerate is about building a stronger, more global airline for our guests, and expanding our partnership with American is an important step in that strategy,” Alaska’s Executive Vice President and CCO Andrew Harrison, said. “Joining these joint businesses would put Alaska on equal footing with its competitors by giving our guests more seamless access to international destinations while preserving the care, loyalty benefits and premium experience they expect from Alaska.”
American’s CCO Nat Pieper welcomed the development and said he was “excited” to build on their successful long-standing partnership.
“Together, with our joint business partners in the Atlantic and Pacific, we are enhancing a global network that gives customers greater access, convenience and choice,” added Pieper.
The announcement builds upon the existing relationship between Alaska, American and their oneworld partners across the Atlantic and the Pacific.
