BOC Aviation has confirmed an order for up to 220 Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, enough to power up to 110 Airbus A320neo family aircraft.
The deal was announced July 21, 2026, at the Farnborough International Airshow, though it had originally been signed and listed as an undisclosed order back in June 2025.
Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, said the order reflects BOC Aviation’s continued confidence in the GTF, which he described as “the most fuel-efficient engine for single aisle aircraft.” He added that Pratt & Whitney intends to keep building on its relationship with the leasing company “to meet growing airline demand.”

The largest order in a nearly three-decade relationship
For BOC Aviation, the agreement marks its biggest order with Pratt & Whitney to date.
Steven Townend, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at BOC Aviation, called it “the largest that BOC Aviation has placed with Pratt & Whitney and a continuation of our 29-year relationship,” adding that the engine maker has played “a key role in our growth.”
He said the GTF engines “enable a substantial reduction in fuel costs,” a factor he tied directly to the efficiency of the leasing company’s future fleet.
GTF performance and market demand
Pratt & Whitney says the GTF’s geared architecture delivers 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to the previous generation of engines.
More than 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft are currently in service worldwide across over 90 customers, with an order backlog that has grown past 8,000 units, a sign of sustained demand across the industry.
The company also points to the GTF’s design as a foundation for future propulsion technology, describing the engine’s architecture as the right platform to support the next generation of engine development.
