A Cessna Citation I/SP crashed in mountainous terrain in western Mexico on October 4, 2026, with local media reporting that the two pilots aboard were killed.

The aircraft, identified by regional news outlets as registration XB-BAR, was flying from Tepic, the capital of Nayarit state, to Aguascalientes in central Mexico. Rescuers located the wreckage the following day near the community of Los Mezquites, in the municipality of Ixtlán del Río.

Mexican newspaper La Jornada reported that the pilot and copilot died in the crash.

The jet departed Tepic’s Amado Nervo International Airport at approximately 16:30 local time on October 4. Local news outlet NTV reported that its tracking signal disappeared about 18 minutes later.

NTV said flight-tracking records showed the aircraft changed direction before contact was lost.

Emergency crews, state police and firefighters responded to the crash site, roughly three kilometers from Los Mezquites. The rugged terrain complicated access to the wreckage.

Residents reported seeing fire and a column of smoke in the mountains. Some accounts described flames before the aircraft struck the ground, but an inflight fire has not been confirmed.
