The airline had previously marked the centenary of its establishment as a company (with the name Aero O/Y) on November 1, 2023. 

The airline’s inaugural flight, operated by a Junkers F13 aircraft, took off from Helsinki for Tallinn, Estonia, at 15.40 local time on March 20, 1924, with 162 kilograms of mail on board. 

This early foundational date makes Finnair one of the world’s oldest airlines still in operation, after KLM, Avianca, Qantas, Aeroflot, and Czech Airlines. 

Finnair still operates a service between Helsinki (HEL) and Tallinn (TLL) at present, with the short link between the two cities assured by its regional feeder Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra), which operates three daily flights across the Gulf of Finland. 

Finnair will also be launching a second destination in Estonia, Tartu (TAY) on March 31, 2024. This new service will have 12 weekly frequencies in each direction and, as in the case with the Tallinn link, will be operated by ATR-72 turboprop aircraft.
