The first Airbus A350-900 destined for SWISS completed its maiden flight on August 6, 2025.

The aircraft, which carries the temporary registration F-WZHI (the final Swiss one, HB-IFA, will only be assigned upon the aircraft’s delivery) took off from Toulouse-Blagnac (TLS), where Airbus’ manufacturing facility is based, at 11.27 local time.

This first test flight, which lasted several hours, took the aircraft on a flight path over parts of Western and Central France and the Atlantic Ocean, all the way to the English Channel.

The aircraft, which has been named “Lausanne” after the city on the shores of Lake Leman, has been painted in the distinctive “Wanderlust” special livery.

The Wanderlust livery is a colorful design, which was publicly unveiled on June 24, 2025, includes multiple elements related to Swiss identity, landscape, and culture. The airline has defined it as a “love letter to Switzerland”.

SWISS has 10 A350-900s on order, with deliveries expected between October 2025 and 2031.

All of these aircraft will be fitted with the airline’s new ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin.
