Brazilian airline Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes will introduce up to five Airbus A330-900 wide-body aircraft as part of a fleet expansion planned by its parent company Abra Group, marking a significant step in the carrier’s long-haul development strategy.
The aircraft are part of a broader order for seven Airbus A330neo jets that Abra Group plans to add to its airline portfolio in 2026 and 2027. Under the current allocation plan, Gol is expected to operate up to five aircraft, while two will be assigned to Colombian carrier Avianca, another airline within the Abra Group.
The introduction of wide-body aircraft would allow Gol, which is traditionally a narrow-body operator, to expand its long-haul network and strengthen connectivity between Latin America, North America, and Europe.
Spain-based Wamos Air, in which Abra Group holds a strategic investment, is expected to provide wide-body ACMI capacity to support Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes as the airline expands its international operations.
The Airbus A330-900 accommodates more than 290 passengers and includes a business-class cabin. According to Abra Group, some of the aircraft will also feature lavatories adapted for passengers with reduced mobility.
Gol currently operates a standardized fleet composed entirely of the Boeing 737 family and has historically focused on short- and medium-haul routes across Brazil and the wider Latin American region. According to the Planespotters.net fleet registry, the Rio de Janeiro-based airline’s fleet totals 145 aircraft, comprising 11 Boeing 737-700, 69 Boeing 737-800, and 56 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets.
The introduction of wide-body aircraft would represent a significant shift in the airline’s fleet profile as it explores broader international opportunities.
