Gulfstream Aerospace announced on July 1, 2026, that one of its new G800 ultra-long-haul jets had completed the farthest and fastest flight in the history of private aviation.

The claim is substantiated by the fact that in June 2026, a G800 flew nonstop between the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik, and Savannah, Georgia, a segment of 2,973 nautical miles (5,505 kilometers) in five hours and 52 minutes, which represents an average cruise speed of Mach 0.91.

With this accomplishment, Gulfstream also collected its 800th city-pair speed record.

Speed has traditionally been one of the top selling points of Gulfstream jets and an aspect of flight performance in which the Savannah-based private jet manufacturer is engaged in fierce competition with its Canadian arch-rival Bombardier.

In a press release announcing the latest milestone, Gulfstream did not miss the opportunity to highlight that it has collected 815 speed records across its entire fleet. The G800, despite its relatively recent arrival, is responsible for 15 of these speed records since its entry into service in August 2025.

  1. What a pity about this information. The Mach number is not calculated by applying the time used. This value depends on the performance of the airplane, temperature and altitude. Nor does it take into account the wind (it is, for this case, naive to consider a route to the west because, due to the ‘jet stream’ the time will always be longer). The Mach number is read directly on his own instrument, located in front of the pilot, in the cockpit. A photograph showing it would have been enough.

  2. Always amazing to see the great progress within the Gulfstream’s evolution. This is magnanimous and it’s due the applause. My dream to get my G800 has come to pass. Am aspired!
