A series of strikes planned for September 2025 in Italy are expected to impact multiple airlines, with airport ground staff and flight attendants all set to take part in industrial action.

The first strike is scheduled for September 6, 2025, with easyJet flight staff at Catania Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) and Swissport employees at Milan Linate Airport (LIN) preparing flights to and from CTA planning a 24-hour walk out.

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport also confirmed that airport workers at both Pisa International Airport (PSA) and Florence Airport (FLR) will hold a four-hour strike on the same day.

Commenting on the strikes Wizz Air said: “With regard to Wizz Air’s Italian operations on 6 Sept, a strike was called by a third-party Italian trade union and concerns Wizz Air’s operations between 12:00 and 16:00 (CEST). Wizz Air plans to minimize the impact of this strike action.”

According to local media, a 24-hour strike by airport handling staff at Milan Linate and Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP) has also been called.

Further disruption is expected on September 26, 2025, when airport handling staff at LIN and MXP are set to walk out for four hours.

Volotea staff and aviation workers, who are members of the union CUB Transport, will also strike for 24 hours while FLAI Transport and Services members employed by Assohandlers will stop working for four hours.

Security staff at Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG) have also signaled that they will take industrial action for 24 hours.

While Wizz Air and easyJet have warned of possible delays or cancellations, Ryanair said its Italian flights will not be affected.

“We continue to operate a full schedule to/from Italy, and do not expect any disruption to our operations in September,” a Ryanair spokesperson told AeroTime.

Along with strikes in Italy, a union representing French air traffic controllers has confirmed that its members are to strike after the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) failed to respond to their concerns.

The SNCTA, the majority union of French air traffic controllers, announced on August 26, 2025, that fresh industrial action will take place on September 18, 2025.
