LATAM Airways has unveiled plans for a new economy cabin design aboard the carrier’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

LATAM made the announcement on April 30, 2024, indicating that certain subsidiaries of the airline group would begin operating Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners with their economy cabin “completely renovated”.

LATAM said each retrofit would cost the airline $15 million per aircraft with four 787-9s scheduled to receive the makeover in 2024.

The new economy seating features headrests, six-inch recline, and a renewed onboard entertainment system with 12-inch screens.

Additionally, economy passengers can choose to travel more comfortably in LATAM+ seats, which offer more legroom, greater recline, exclusive luggage space, and priority boarding and disembarkation.

LATAM also noted that the seats will be made with 57% recycled leather, which “reduces carbon emissions by up to 60%, and saves water and land use by up to 55%”.

Economy passengers will also be able to access numerous movies and TV box sets via Bluetooth and use a new interactive 3D map Panasonic’s Arc.

It’s about experiencing the warmth and hospitality of South America,” Jaime Cornejo, Cabin, Onboard Entertainment, and Connectivity Manager at LATAM Airlines Group, said.

LATAM Airlines has subsidiaries in five domestic markets in the region: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
