Leasing firm AerCap has placed a new order for 15 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, the US aircraft manufacturer announced on July 21, 2026.
AerCap will have the option to upgauge to the larger B787-10 at a later date, brings AerCap’s Dreamliner order book to 140 aircraft.
The order, which was announced during the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, strengthens AerCap’s commitment to the Dreamliner family. In this regard, it is worth noting that AerCap was not just the first lessor to take delivery of a B787 back in 2013 but has since become the single largest purchaser of Dreamliners in the world. Strong demand for the Dreamliner has, reportedly, motivated the purchase.
“As demand for modern, fuel-efficient widebody airplanes continues to grow, this transaction enables us to provide our customers with greater access to one of the industry’s most versatile and sought-after airplane families,” said Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, during the order announcement. “The 787 has consistently demonstrated strong operating economics and exceptional performance across a wide range of route networks.”
No specific details about the delivery calendar were provided.
All these 15 Dreamliners acquired by AerCap are going to be powered by GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines.
Boeing has racked up a significant number of orders for the B787 family in the first two days of the air show. New Saudi carrier Riyadh Air exercised options for 28 of the aircraft type (upgauging 20 of them to the –10 version) and Philippine Airlines placed 15 firm orders and secured five options.
