Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced it will restore nonstop flights between Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila and Saipan International Airport (SPN) in the Northern Mariana Islands from October 25, 2026.

The Philippine flag carrier is positioning the route as a leisure link for multi-destination holidays that combine the Philippines with Saipan. The island is known for its beaches, diving and snorkeling sites, historical landmarks and nature parks.

PAL is also targeting connecting traffic through its Manila hub. Passengers from Japan, South Korea, Greater China and Southeast Asia will be able to connect to Saipan, as well as to domestic Philippine destinations including Cebu, Boracay, Bohol, Coron, Siargao and Davao.

The airline said the service strengthens its network across Asia and the Pacific and supports tourism and commercial ties between the Philippines, the Northern Mariana Islands and key Asian markets. Flights can be booked through PAL’s website, mobile app, reservations hotline, ticket offices and accredited travel agents.

Centuries of Filipino ties

Saipan is the largest island and seat of government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a self-governing US territory, and Filipinos make up roughly a third of the commonwealth’s population.

The link dates back to Spanish colonial rule from 1565 to 1899, when the Marianas were administered from Manila and Filipino soldiers, catechists and laborers were brought to the islands. Many settled and married into local Chamorro families.

Filipino migration picked up again in the late 20th century, as thousands of workers moved to Saipan for jobs in construction, tourism and the garment industry.
