Star Alliance has opened a new lounge at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) in China, located in the recently launched Terminal 3.
The lounge spans approximately 1,400 square metres with seating for around 245 guests. Its standout feature is a 700-square-metre outdoor garden, a rarity in airport environments that gives passengers a quiet space to unwind before their flight.
The facility is open 24 hours a day and is available to First and Business class passengers, as well as Star Alliance Gold status members traveling on any member airline flight departing from Terminal 3.
Building on an earlier success
The new lounge builds on the success of Star Alliance’s first lounge in Asia, which also opened in Guangzhou in 2024. With operations now fully transitioned from Terminal 1, the new space marks the next step in the alliance’s presence at one of China’s growing international gateways.
Ambar Franco, Vice President of Customer Experience at Star Alliance, said lounges remain a key part of the travel experience for member airline passengers.
“As Guangzhou continues to grow as an important international gateway in China, this new space reflects the evolution of our lounge offering,” Franco said. “It is bigger and better, and will deliver enhanced comfort and functionality for Star Alliance member airline customers.”
A busy hub for Star Alliance
10 Star Alliance member airlines operate from Guangzhou: Air China, ANA, Asiana Airlines, EGYPTAIR, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, THAI, and Turkish Airlines. Together, they offer 1,500 weekly departures to 52 destinations across 10 countries.
Qi Yaoming, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, said the partnership with Star Alliance reflects a broader commitment to improving the experience for international travelers.
“Going forward, we will continue to strengthen strategic coordination with Star Alliance and major airlines, carrying out deeper cooperation in route network expansion, transfer facilitation, and smart travel, to jointly build a better international aviation ecosystem,” Qi said.
Touches of Guangzhou
The lounge was designed in collaboration with the airport and draws on elements of Lingnan culture and Guangzhou’s natural landscape. At its center is a sculptural installation inspired by the kapok flower, the city’s emblem, reimagined through a contemporary lens.
A dedicated tea experience anchors the space in local tradition, with tea artists guiding guests through the craft and cultural significance of tea.
The dining program was developed in partnership with the five-star chef team at Pullman Hotel and features a selection of Chinese and Western dishes focused on freshness and balance.
Other amenities include rest areas, sleep pods, private rooms, reading spaces, and dedicated work zones.
