Steven Greenway, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of flyadeal, announced on April 2, 2026, that he is stepping down from his role at the Saudi low-cost carrier.

In a post on LinkedIn, Greenway attributed his resignation to personal reasons, highlighting his tenure at the helm of the low-cost airline of the Saudia Group as a period of extremely intense work.

“Working @ 1,000% takes its toll,” he stated, adding that he will remain in an advisory capacity until the end of 2026.

Greenway, who joined flyadeal in 2024, has led the airline through a cycle of growth in which it has seen passenger figures grow by nearly one third, passing the 10 million per year mark for the first time.

In the last couple of years, the Jeddah-based low-cost carrier has also seen a significant increase in the number of aircraft and routes operated at a time when Saudi Arabia turned its attention to its aviation industry as a key element of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 growth strategy.

In 2025, flyadeal also made the strategic move of ordering 10 A330-900neo aircraft to enter the long-haul market.

Sanjiv Kapoor, EVP Strategies, Transformation and Sustainability at Saudia, will step in as interim CEO of flyadeal until Saudia Group appoints someone to head the business on a more permanent basis.

The resignation of flyadeal’s CEO was preceded by senior management changes at other prominent low-cost carriers.

On March 10, 2026, IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers stepped aside, to be replaced a few days later by Willie Walsh, former CEO of British Airways and until now Director of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

On March 12, 2026, Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways announced the departure of its Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Krishnan Balakrishnan, after several years at the helm.
