Sun PhuQuoc Airways has set out the timeline for the arrival of eight former American Airlines Airbus A330-200 aircraft that have been in storage since 2020.
On August 10, 2026, the Vietnamese leisure carrier confirmed that the first four A330s are expected to join the fleet in 2026. The remaining four Airbus A330s will be delivered within the first four months of 2027.
“This marks an important step for Sun PhuQuoc Airways to expand its network from regional routes to further international markets,” the airlines said.
In February 2026, Sun PhuQuoc Airway ordered up to 40 787 Dreamliner jets from Boeing as part of its “vision of bringing Phu Quoc to the world”.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways confirmed that expects to receive its brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from 2031, so the acquisition of the A330s allows the airline to begin long-haul routes in the meantime.
The carrier said it plans to use the A330s to “progressively strengthen routes to South Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, Japan and Australia, while exploring expansion to several destinations in Europe”.
According to Planespotters.net, the eight A330-200s are currently stored at Marana Pinal Airpark (MZJ), Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Peru Grissom Air Reserve Base (GUS).
American Airlines placed the eight aircraft in long term storage at Roswell International Air Center (ROS) in April/May 2020 when global air travel was at a virtual standstill due to the pandemic.
The aircraft are all around 13 years old and subsequently spent a significant amount of the lifetime in storage.
Before being withdrawn from service, all eight A330-200s were retrofitted by American Airlines with a new cabin and seating.
The aircraft are currently listed as under the ownership of Jetran, a US-based aviation company.
