The US Department of State (DOS) has approved two separate arms sales to Ukraine: a proposed sale worth approximately $825 million arms of long-range missiles and a potential sale valued at $179.1 million deal to support Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced that both purchases “will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the US by improving the security of a partner country” and “improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats”.

Ukraine to receive extended-range missiles

The $825 million package includes up to 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles and 3,350 Embedded Global Positioning System (GPS)/Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) (EGI) equipped with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM), Y-Code, or M-Code.

The deal will also come with missile containers, stoker pylons, spare parts, repair support, weapons software, mission-planning systems, technical documents, and personnel training. Additional backing includes engineering, logistics, and other program support services.

Ukraine will use funding from Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway along with Foreign Military Financing from the US for this acquisition, according to the State Department. The DOS added that the main contractors will be Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire.

US greenlights upgrade to Patriot systems

On August 29, 2025, the US Department of State approved the potential $179.1 million military sale to Ukraine for Patriot Air Defense System Sustainment and related equipment.

“Patriot air defense systems are vital for Ukraine. They protect our people, our cities, and critical infrastructure from relentless russian air attacks,” Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said in a statement

The main contractors of this sale will be RTX Corporation, based in Arlington, Virginia, and Lockheed Martin, located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Additionally, the US Department of State also approved the sale of satellite communication services and equipment to Ukraine, widely understood to refer to SpaceX’s Starlink, worth around $150 million.

These announcements follow recent meetings in August 2025, when US President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, and shortly after with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House in Washington D.C.
