An IndiGo Airbus A321 operating a flight from Guwahati (GAU) to Bengaluru (BLR) suffered a tail strike during its second landing attempt at Kempegowda International Airport on September 27, 2026. All passengers and crew were safe, while the aircraft was subsequently taken out of service for inspection.
The aircraft, an Airbus A321-252NX registered VT-IBH, was operating IndiGo flight 6E6542 from Guwahati to Bengaluru. According to reports from Indian media, the aircraft initially attempted to land at Kempegowda International Airport but conducted a go-around.
During the second approach, the aircraft’s tail contacted the runway during landing. IndiGo described the occurrence as an “abnormal runway contact.” The aircraft completed the landing and taxied to the airport without further incident.
According to IndiGo, the incident occurred amid gusty weather conditions at Kempegowda International Airport. However, it has not been established whether the weather conditions contributed to the tail strike.
No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew on board.
Following the landing, the aircraft was removed from service and grounded for maintenance inspections. IndiGo notified the relevant authorities in accordance with standard procedures.
The extent of any damage to the aircraft has not been publicly disclosed. It is also not yet clear whether the aircraft sustained structural damage requiring repairs or replacement of components.
The DGCA has launched an investigation into the incident. Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances of the two approaches, the aircraft’s technical condition, operational data, and prevailing weather conditions.
