Taiwanese carrier China Airlines has unveiled a new Premium Economy cabin.
The new product is going to be fitted into the China Airlines’ new B787 aircraft, of which the Taiwanese carrier has 24 on order and awaiting delivery.
These Dreamliners, 18 B787-9s and six B787-10s, were ordered during the 2023 Paris Air Show and will feature 28 Premium Economy seats in a 2-3-2 seating configuration.
When it comes to the style of the new Premium Economy cabin, China Airlines has opted for a theme called “Starlit Mountain City”, inspired by the scenery of Jiufen, a historical city in the mountains of northern Taiwan, after dark.
According to the airline, the new cabin reflects Taiwanese scenery and cultural motifs through the use of different colors and materials and the way these interact with light in the cabin. These include elements painted in metallic chrome tones as well as leather textures, which combine a sense of modernity with sophistication. This design aims to evoke the energy and warmth of Taiwan’s cities during the flight, the airline said.
Each Premium Economy seat is fitted with a personal entertainment system equipped with a 15.6″ 4K high-definition display with Bluetooth connectivity for personal device synchronization and a rose-gold reading lamp. Passengers on Premium Economy will also be offered porcelain services, two-toned blankets, slippers, noise-reducing over-ear headphones, and a Marc Jacobs amenity kit stocked with cosmetics by Danish brand FRAMA. Complimentary access to Wi-Fi is also included, on par with that enjoyed by Business Class passengers.
It is worth noting that this will be an entirely new cabin, different from the Premium Economy product China Airlines already offers on its B777-300ER and some of its A350-900 aircraft.
