Passengers on an IrAero Antonov An-26 twin-engine turboprop aircraft were given quite the scare after the plane’s cargo hatch opened shortly after take-off.
Footage captured by one of the passengers on the flight, who was seated at the back of the plane, showed the rear aircraft door opening wide while it was climbing out of Magan Airport (GYG), located close to Yakutsk, the world’s coldest city.
The footage showed luggage and other items belonging to the 25 passengers onboard being sucked out of the aircraft cabin as it depressurized.
The terrifying incident happened on January 9, 2023, when the AN-26 was climbing out of GYG airport towards Magadan (UHMT). When the plane door opened, it had reached a flight altitude of several kilometers.
According to a report published by Life.ru, the plane involved in the incident was the 43-year-old RA-26174.
The flight crew returned to the airport of departure and no injuries were reported.
