Four adults and one child were killed after a private jet crashed by Ingalls Field Airport (HSP) in Hot Springs, Virginia, in the United States (US).

The twin-engine Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Westwind Astra 1125 private jet left Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) in Florida on March 10, 2024, but diverted to Hot Springs a few hours into its journey.

According to local news station WDBJ7, the Westwind Astra pilot tried to make an emergency landing at Ingalls Field Airport but landed short of the runway and crashed into a wooded hillside.

Upon crashing the Westwind Astra 1125 private jet burst into flames, resulting in the deaths of all those onboard.

“At this time, it appears there were four adults and one juvenile onboard the aircraft. All five, which includes the pilot, died at the scene,” a spokesperson for Virginia State Police said.

Onboard the aircraft, registered N1125A, were two pilots and three passengers. It has not been confirmed where the aircraft was travelling to.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.

“NTSB is investigating Sunday’s crash of an Israel Aircraft Industries 1125 Westwind Astra airplane near Hot Springs, Virginia,” the agency wrote on X (formally known as Twitter).
