A small plane crash-landed in a golf course in Sacramento, California, narrowly missing an unassuming golfer.

The accident occurred on August 4, 2024 at around 13:15 local time.

Reports say that the aircraft, a Piper PA28, experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Sacramento McClellan Airport (MCC) and had to make an emergency landing at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.

Footage from the golf course’s surveillance camera caught the moment the small plane crash landed, startling the golfer who can be seen jumping away as the plane careened towards the direction of the club’s pro shop, where it came to halt.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the pilot was the only person in the aircraft and managed to walk away from the crash with just minor injuries. No one else was reported to have been injured.

Clearer video footage from the Sacramento Fire Department also showed the damaged Piper PA28, with registration NI350G, in front of the golf course’s pro and repair shop.

The National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the accident.

  1. Are there ant photos or video video of the aircraft’s approach and touch down? What caused the post touchdown side slide?? Was the pilot using the rudder to skew the aircraft fuselage to increase ground contact and friction drag?
