Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense reported the detection of multiple China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) fighter jets and drones operating in areas surrounding Taiwan between October 6 and 7, 2024.

19 of the aircraft detected breached the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, and southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The exact model of the aircraft involved in the incursion was not specified. Six warships were also identified.

Taiwan’s military closely monitored the situation and took defensive action in response, scrambling fighter jets, vessels, and shore-based missile systems.

This incursion is the latest in a series of increased military activities by China near Taiwan, escalating tensions in the region. The government of Taiwan reported a 129% increase in its air force operations in 2020, citing the frequent and consistent presence of Chinese military aircraft in the country’s ADIZ as the reason.

  1. Start filing law suits against China requesting monetary compensation for the cost of scrambling to intercept.
