WestJet and the union representing cabin crew staff have reached a tentative agreement bringing the current strike action to an end.
On August 3, 2026, WestJet said the deal reached brings to a close the work stoppage and network-wide operational disruption that has led to hundreds of flight cancellations.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 8125 said the deal was reached “after strike action helped bring the parties to a resolution”.
“This tentative agreement represents meaningful progress. It evolves the flight credit system by recognizing more of the work cabin crew are required to perform and with general increases to compensation for that work,” CUPE 8125 President Alia Hussain said.
The union said the deal “improves upon the legacy flight credit system by introducing a duty period premium” and “recognizes more of the work cabin crew are required to perform and increases compensation for that work”.

The agreement will now go to WestJet cabin crew union members for a ratification vote. The date for the vote to be held will be announced soon.
Alexis von Hoensbroech, CEO of WestJet, wrote that he was “pleased” that an agreement to move forward had been found and “reflects the hard work and professionalism” of the employees.
“We know this disruption has been frustrating for our guests and WestJetters and we’re sorry for that,” von Hoensbroech said. “Our teams are working hard to restore service and get our guests on their way to their destinations as quickly as possible and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we get back to normal.”
WestJet cabin crew went on strike on August 2, 2026, citing unpaid work as a “big piece of our priorities”.
On August 2, 2026, WestJet took the decision to release the details of the offer made to the union.
In a statement the airline wrote: “[…] it’s important to be clear about what was offered, what was not accepted, and what is leading to 250,000 guests whose August long weekend travel is cancelled, with further flights to follow, depending on the duration of the work stoppage.”
Under that agreement, WestJet cabin wages were set to rise 13% in October 2026, and then by 2.5% each year up to and including 2029.
