On July 8, 2026, Wizz Air announced a major expansion of its operational footprint in Spain for the winter season of 2026/27.
For the first time ever, the pan-European low-cost carrier will set up two bases in the Spain and will also start operating domestic flights within the country.
Valencia (VLC), on Spain’s eastern coast, and Madrid (MAD) will get new Wizz Air bases.
Wizz Air will operate five domestic routes from Valencia, starting November 2026: Palma (PMI) and Bilbao (BIO) on a daily basis, Asturias (OVD) five times per week, Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) four times weekly, and Santander (SDR) twice weekly.
Naples (NAP), Italy, and Brasov (GHV), Romania will also be served from Valencia, on a daily and thrice-weekly frequency, respectively. The current daily frequency to Milan-Malpensa (MXP) will be increased to twice daily.
Wizz Air will set up another base in the Spanish capital, Madrid (MAD), which it will link to three domestic destinations, Asturias, Palma, and Santiago, as well as Pisa (PSA), in Italy.

The Basque city of Bilbao will also get direct links to Malaga (AGP), Santiago and Wroclaw (WRO), Poland.
The carrier is also planning to add capacity to Spain from its other European bases. Starting on October 26, 2026, a new route will also link Almeria (LEI) in southeastern Spain to Wizz Air’s base in Bucharest-Otopeni (OTP), Romania.
Additionally, on October 27, 2026, Wizz Air will also add three new destinations in Spain from London-Luton, Málaga, Asturias – Oviedo (OVD) and Granada (GRX). These new services will be operated with a four-weekly, thrice-weekly, and twice-weekly frequency, respectively.
The announcement was made almost one year to the date when Wizz Air announced the launch of its first services between the UK and Spain. With these new routes, Wizz Air will serve 11 different destinations from UK airports.
The new bases are expected to create around 150 jobs in Spain for pilots and cabin crew.
